As part of our Women's History Month celebration, we opened up a discussion about the delicate balance between work and personal life for women with the following question:

“How do you balance work and personal life, and are there any women role models who have influenced your approach to this balance?”

Hear from Tracy Dabbs, Ready’s Performance Marketing Director, as she shares her experience.

Balancing work and personal life can be challenging for anyone. I've encountered situations in the past where I had to leave a company due to their lack of support and unreasonable demands. I'm grateful that Ready is different.

In my early career (20+ years ago!) I aggressively pursued promotions and put work first. Having and caring for children didn’t feature heavily in the conversations around me and the sentiment at the time was that this may actually stall, or worse reverse, progression.

Fast-forward to today, and I’m proud of the strides we’re making to support women and their life choices. Numerous female role models are leading the way, advocating for flexible environments where both men and women can thrive.

In the right company with the right support, I believe a healthy work-life balance is achievable. For example, working remotely allows me to be present for my children in the mornings, or when they are sick. Also, having a flexible working arrangement enables me to participate in both school appointments and important work meetings. I value being able to bring my whole self to Ready, which means that it's a non issue when my youngest child pops in on a video call with colleagues and clients.

My weekdays are primarily dedicated to work, but I prioritize quality time with my family in the evening and on weekends.  I’m only able to do this due to an incredible supportive partner at home and an equally flexible employer.

I fully unplug at the weekend, enjoying family activities like game nights, countryside walks, and pizza dinners. It’s so important for me to be able to achieve that balance and I’m glad to be at an organization that makes it easy (or at least easier).
