The Legacy of HBCUs Webinar

In celebration of Juneteenth, the Department of Education will hold a special webinar titled “The Legacy of HBCUs: A Juneteenth Celebration” on Wednesday, June 14th, 2023 at 1:00 PM ET.

The webinar will focus on the history and impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The webinar description reads: “HBCUs are a source of accomplishment and great pride for the African American community as well as the entire nation. In this webinar, we will hear about the legacy of HBCUs, from the first institution founded before the civil war to efforts today to provide our colleges and universities with the support they need to thrive and succeed. We will also learn about the history of 1890 land-grant institutions, a designated set of HBCUs that that receive federal funds to support teaching, research and extension intended to serve underserved communities.”

The event is hosted by The White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and The White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans.
