New Security Protocols Requires Upgrades for SAIG Software Users

  • 3 min read

New security protocols bring upcoming changes and upgrades related to SAIG (Student Aid Internet Gateway) software for users transmitting federal tax information (FTI) for the 2024–25 award year and beyond. New versions of EDconnect, TDClient, and TDCommunityManager (TDCM), will be released later this fall and will be required to receive 2024–25 ISIR (Institutional Student Information Record) data.

New FTI-SAIG System
In May 2023, an Electronic Announcement introduced the FTI-SAIG, a new instance of the SAIG system. The FTI-SAIG is dedicated to handling the transmission of ISIR data containing FTI, with enhanced security and features. The existing SAIG will continue to manage other types of batch data.

Upgraded versions of EDconnect, TDClient, and TDCM are designed to align with FTI-SAIG requirements and enhance security. Users will have the option to use one version of the software for all data transmission needs. Both EDconnect and TDClient will be compatible with both instances of the SAIG, allowing users to use one version of the software for all data transmission needs. Additionally, a new instance of TDCM, known as FTI-TDCM, will be introduced specifically for FTI users. This specialized version will cater to the unique requirements of FTI data transmission.

Software Upgrades Include:

  • EDconnect: Users will need to add an “FTI-SAIG user profile” in their security setup, following similar steps as the current software but using an “FT” mailbox.
  • TDClient: The upgraded TDClient application will be compatible with various operating systems, including Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, and Z/OS. Both EDconnect and TDClient will require a certificate for authentication, enhancing security.
  • FTI-TDCM: FTI-TDCM introduces Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for login, requiring FSA User ID, password, a security code from a registered token device, and FT mailbox ID. Password requirements have also been strengthened.

Additional Security Step for EDconnect and TDClient Users
Both upgraded EDconnect and TDClient softwares will require a certificate for authentication. To ensure secure access for FTI-SAIG users, the certificate needs to be downloaded from the FTI-TDCM and subsequently utilized within the EDconnect and TDClient applications. This enhancement strengthens security measures and ensures a reliable and protected experience for users handling sensitive tax-related information.

Availability and Support
The upgraded FTI-SAIG software will be available in the fall, along with comprehensive user documentation. Users will need to sign an updated SAIG enrollment agreement and enroll for an FTI-SAIG mailbox, beginning with “FT,” to receive ISIR files using the upgraded software.

Upcoming Communications
Further information, including user documentation, will be provided in the fall. Users are encouraged to monitor the Knowledge Center website for updates related to SAIG software.
