TRIO Day Commemoration!

Good afternoon!

Today, Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) and the McNair Scholars Program, UO’s two TRIO programs, are celebrating TRIO Day! We want to commemorate the 36th National TRIO Day and the annual achievements of the Federal TRIO programs in communities across the country. Read more about TRIO Day here.

ICYMI: TRIO programs are Federal outreach and student services grant programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs. In total, there are about 400 students between McNair Scholars and Student Support Services here at UO!

We are celebrating TRIO day by giving a little reminder about what TRIO can do for UO students!

TRIO SSS offers holistic advising and support for students who are either first in their family to go to college, come from an income eligible background, and/or have a documented disability. Our main goal is to support students all the way through to graduation, and we do so with financial literacy workshops, financial assistance, peer mentoring, career advising, referrals, community building, personal counseling, and more! Know a student who could benefit from our services? Let us know (triosss@uoregon.edu) and learn more on our website: triosss.uoregon.edu and check out our social media (@uotriosss)!

We are currently accepting applications for new TRIO SSS participants that meet two of our three criteria!

TRIO McNair Scholars Program prepares qualified juniors and seniors for graduate study leading to PhD degrees. McNair Scholars receive comprehensive support to earn undergraduate degrees, complete research projects in their fields of study, and apply to graduate schools. The program’s limited size provides a close-knit community while helping students gain a broad understanding of research and university culture. (Christabelle is sending some info about Launchpad!)

How can you help celebrate TRIO Day?

Share our upcoming First Generation Leadership Training with your students! Tamam Waritu will address overcoming impostor syndrome, gaining social capital, empowerment, leadership, and more.
