Federal Student Aid Estimator updated for 2024-25

  • 1 min read

FSA’s Federal Student Aid Estimator tool has been updated for 2024-25. The update features the metrics and terminology that is found on the 2024-25 FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form.

Students and families can use the form to help them estimate how much federal student aid they may be eligible for. The new tool calculates the Student Aid Index (SAI) for the 2024-25 award year. In previous years the tool calculated the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). SAI replaces EFC starting in the 2024-25 aid year. The change is a result of the FAFSA Simplification Act.

The Student Aid Index (SAI) is an eligibility index number that a college’s or career school’s financial aid office uses to determine how much federal student aid the student would receive if the student attended the school. This number results from the information that the student provides in their FAFSA® form.
