Jackson was a 2009 recipient of the Dr. John Hope Franklin Award but was recognized at this year’s American Council on Education (ACE) annual meeting in Washington, D.C. regrettably, the award ceremony was cancelled in 2009. Sponsored research awards tripled and more than 325 tenure-track faculty members were hired.

Connecting Black students with each other made them feel stronger and more determined to support each other through the curriculum. “It Faculty from the College of Engineering and College of Sciences play an essential role. Justin Ortagus, an associate professor of higher education administration and policy and the director of the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Florida, examined over 40,000 student transcripts from a diverse, high-enrollment community college from between 2009 and 2019. Smith Jaggars attributes this to systemic barriers.
