Nearly twenty years later, Patterson-Stephens returned to her alma mater in 2021 to become CMU’s Vice President for Inclusive Excellence and Belonging after honing her leadership skills at several other colleges and universities across the nation. She is the first Black woman to ever serve as a vice president at the university.

We released two new playbooks to assist leadership teams in their practices of proactive advising and college-to-career transition. The number of annual graduates of color at UIA institutions has increased 93% from 2012-2013 to 2021-2022. Our board, staff, and network convened in person for the first time in three years.
