Twenty percent of students we surveyed said they referred to emails from colleges and universities during their search process, up from 13% in our 2021 survey. Schools that highlight support services—including mental health resources and career services —in their recruitment outreach will gain an advantage, especially with younger applicants.

Most recently, enrollment in these programs grew 31% from 2021-2022. Where possible, encourage faculty who teach courses in programs to be sunset to collaborate across departments to create interdisciplinary studies programs. Enrollment in master’s-level interdisciplinary studies programs is on the rise.

Our survey found that nearly 25% of students had no plan to take an admissions test, and from 2017 to 2021, the number of domestic GRE test-takers dropped 44% and the number of domestic GMAT test takers decreased by 54%.

This simple but effective tool allows the institution to reach out discreetly, as only designated staff members are alerted when someone raises their hand—initiating a timely response from counseling or support services. Additionally, students prioritize affordability and career preparation in their ideal college experience.
