As chief executive officers in the California community college system, we embarked upon the topic of STEM out of an acute awareness of the lack of Dr. Lennor Johnson opportunities available to disproportionately impacted communities, and a shared commitment to forging increased pathways for those with the least access.

Necessary support is provided through GANAS (Gaining Access ’AND Academic Success), an innovative access and retention program that serves community college transfer students. From there, I started visiting local high schools and community colleges, passionately advocating for STEM education. It was during this critical time that the Student Supportive Services programs played a pivotal role in my academic journey.
