Higher education leaders face an obligation to Kansas families to remove barriers to access and success and ensure that our system lives up to the ideal of equal opportunity for all. The 1,038 community colleges in the U.S. play an important role for students and communities, providing a quality education that prepares students for jobs or to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. The average age of a community college student is 27, and 35% of students are between the ages of 22 and 39.
