While the past 20 years have been a time of rapid expansion for graduate enrollment, that growth has not been consistent or easily achieved. The countercyclical nature of graduate enrollment, coupled with demographic changes during this period, means that grad programs overall often grew during these tumultuous times.
One of the reasons I love working with our partners to grow their graduate, online, and adult enrollment is because their programs are the center of higher ed’s mission and margin. Graduate and adult-serving programs provide the career-changing opportunities that can improve the lives of entire families.
So, what are the implications of these changes—and how will they impact marketing to graduate and adultstudents in 2024? PCO leaders will collaborate with graduate enrollment leaders and advancement offices to expand the adult learner pipeline—e.g., by growing lifelong learning offerings.
Regardless, they should be cross-functional and made up of individuals from across the institution who are both stakeholders and decision-makers in graduate enrollment and graduatestudentsuccess. Without these elements, a graduate enrollment management plan may lack the necessary information to be truly successful.
