College and university administrators should be strategic about how they respond to government attempts to root out diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives (DEI) on campus. The same report found that Black/African American administrators in higher education were just 8% of all senior leaders. Bradley would like to take this opportunity to give a shout-out to the people who have supported Bradley the most during the transfer process at Missouri State – the faculty and staff.
Words of wisdom/advice for new faculty members: Research should be serving a greater good. Though she initially pursued STEM, based on her strong mathematics performance, she soon discovered her talent for writing and switched to journalism. She spoke about how she went from avoiding to embracing administrative leadership, the pandemic's lessons about collaboration and community, and her view of what it will take to reenergize higher ed. Faculty is a leadership role. I prefer to talk about leadership rather than administration, because administration connotes bureaucracy.
To this end, we provide P-12 educators; college/university faculty, administrators, and staff; and other education stakeholders a blueprint to collaboratively work with Black males through a culturally responsive lens.
