The joy has now turned to sadness as a new law in Texas has dismantled diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices and programs at publicly funded universities. Over 80% identify as BIPOC or multi-racial and 51% are first-generation. This academic year, 575 students are being supported.

From there, I started visiting local high schools and community colleges, passionately advocating for STEM education. My journey of reaching out to kids began when I was an engineer at Lawrence Livermore National Lab, and as a GEM scholar, I got a fellowship for my graduate degree at UC Santa Barbara.
